    IFC Course Regulations

The French Institute of Cyprus (IFC) carries out its mission under the authority of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Embassy in Nicosia. Registration for courses or training implies that students and their legal representatives undertake to honour their commitment in accordance with the current regulations.

    1. Time schedule

Annual courses are organised over 30 weeks (from September to May).

In addition, intensive training courses are offered throughout the year depending on demand.

One teaching unit lasts 60, 90 or 120 minutes, according to the student’s level.

    1. Registration

Registration takes place at the French Institute of Cyprus, 59, Strovolos Avenue, STROVOLOS (from Monday to Thursday, 9 am to 6 pm and on Fridays from 9 am to 2 pm) by bank transfer, cheque, credit card, JCCsmart payment or in cash.

All registrations are formalised by way of a contract between the IFC and the student – or his or her legal representative – setting out the terms of payment (cf. § 3). Registration fees (€50 for semester or annual courses) are included in the price of the course and are invoiced to the student at the time of each registration.

It is possible to register for annual or semester courses during the session. The price will then be calculated on a pro rata basis depending on the courses taken.

The cost of the manual is not included in the course fee.

Anyone registered for a course or for training at the IFC is entitled to free registration at the Culturethèque, the French Institute’s digital library, for the duration of their course.

    1. Payment

If the course fee is less than €300, the amount must be paid in full at the time of registration.

Tuition fees between €300 and €960 may be paid in 3 instalments, which, for the year 2020-2021, must, without fail, be paid on the following dates:

    For annual courses:

    • 1st payment at the time of registration for the course and before

             the start of the course,

    • 2nd payment before 1st December,
    • 3rd payment before 1st March.

For annual courses only, a reduction of 5% will be granted if complete payment is made at the time of registration.

Intensive courses can be paid as follows:

    - for courses where the price is less than or equal to 400 euros: in 2 instalments (one instalment before the beginning of the course, the other the following month).

    - for courses where the price is more than 400 euros: in 3 instalments.

The first payment must be made at the time of registration. This allows the student to be admitted to the course.

In addition, a reduction of 20% is granted:

    • to job seekers - on presentation of supporting documents
    • to the 2nd child of the same family; the reduction will be applied to the least expensive registration.

A reduction of €50 will be granted to children from a numerous family on presentation of the «  large family» card (four or more children).

    Reductions are not cumulative.

The French Institute reserves the right to exclude a student from a course in the case of late payments, i.e. after the due date.

    1. Cancellation and refund

The ICF reserves the right to cancel any course that has fewer than 6 participants up to 48 hours prior to the start of the course.

Another course - or an alternative solution - can then be offered to the students. If this solution does not suit them, the registration fees incurred would then be reimbursed (50 euros) as well as the payments that would already have been made.

Once a course or a training course has begun, there can be no reimbursement for classes not attended, with the exception of certain special cases and by sending a request in writing to the course director (excluding non refundable registration fees):

    - in the case of serious illness or incapacity that prevents the student from attending the course during a period of more than 4 weeks; this must be duly justified by a medical certificate

    - in the case of duly justified permanent departure

Classes that may be cancelled following the announcement of a strike will not be replaced neither will they be reimbursed if the teacher is present on that day.

In the event that a student wishes to change a course, the difference in price will either be refunded or charged to the student.

    1. Penalties for late payment

If a payment is received late, a penalty equal to 0.5% of the sum due will be applied for every day the payment is overdue.

    1. Attendance, behaviour, safety

A certificate of course attendance will be issued upon request if 75% of the course has been completed.

The IFC reserves the right to deny access to a course to any participant whose behaviour prevents the other members of the group from following their course in a normal manner. Any type of behaviour that infringes the law is prohibited and will give rise to expulsion from the course without any form of reimbursement or indemnity.

The IFC can on no account be held responsible for damage caused to a student’s property by another student, nor for any theft that may be committed during a class.

The IFC has taken out liability insurance that protects students collectively in the event of an accident’s taking place within the institution. The risk of accidents occurring on the way between the Institute and home are not covered.

    1. Regulations for minors

The Institute only accepts responsibility for minors during the class. Apart from cases of civil liability provided for by the law, parents and guardians are responsible for the safely of minors before and after the class.

Minors over the age of 8 years may come to their class and leave at the end of their class unaccompanied by an adult. Minors under the age of 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult who entrusts them to the teacher at the beginning of the class. After the class the teacher will accompany the child and hand him/her back to his/her parents in the hall of the French Institute of Cyprus.

The Institute does not undertake the supervision of minors on the premises of the Institute. If the adult who is charged with fetching the minor is delayed, they must notify the French Institute of Cyprus. (22 45 93 33/5).

If the minor causes disruption to the smooth running of the class, the IFC reserves the right to summon his/her parents. If the disruption persists, the minor risks being excluded from one or several classes without reimbursement of the classes not attended.

Parents must inform the language centre of a child’s potential health problems, or of medication that is essential for the child’s health or safety.

Parents are expected to inform their child about the rules and regulations of the IFC.

The signature of these regulations is deemed to be acceptance of them.
