Francophonie 2020 : 15th Film Festival

The French Institute of Cyprus and the Association Friends of Cinema, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus and the Embassies of Switzerland, Lebanon, Austria and Romania present the 15th Francophonie Film Festival.

All films start at 9:00 pm, except on Sunday: 8:00 pm. Venue: Cine studio, University of Nicosia

 The Friends of Cinema Society is a cinema club. According to the terms and conditions for its operation and screening of films, NO admission is allowed to anyone under the age of 18.

Wednesday 4 March 2020. Opening of the Film Festival with the Cypriot film Sunrise in Kimmeria, proposed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the  Republic of Cyprus. Free Entrance. A cocktail will be offered by the Ministry before the projection.

 Director: Simon Farmakas (Cyprus, 2018, 100’, o.v. Greek and English with French subtitles) 

 Actors: Athos Antoniou, Kika Georgiou, Christopher Greco

 Synopsis: An isolated Cypriot village goes into tragicomic overload when a flying object crash-lands in a potato field inside the adjacent UN-controlled buffer zone.

Friday 6 March 2020. This film is proposed by the Embassy of Switzerland. The Embassy will host a cocktail after the screening. Free Entrance.

Synopsis: Frank devotes his life to work. Hanging on his phone, he manages the cargo ships he charters for large companies. While facing a crisis situation, Frank makes a brutal decision and gets fired. Deeply shaken, betrayed by a system to which he has given everything, he does some soul-searching to save the only link that still counts in his eyes: the one he managed to maintain with his youngest daughter, Mathilde.

Swiss Film Awards 2019: Best Fiction Film, Best Screenplay & Best Performance in a Supporting Role.
